Your air purifier should be manufactured without glue or bonding agents.
Your air purifier should have:
Inert gaskets
Unbleached pesticide free cotton muslin pre-filters
Motors with minimal varnish on the windings to prevent off-gassing
Nylon casters instead of plastic.
All metal housing.
Several pounds of activated carbon to adsorb airborne chemicals.
A word about activated carbon.
Activated
carbon is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open millions
of tiny pores between carbon atoms. One pound of activated carbon has a
surface area of up to 60 to 100 acres. Activated carbon may absorb 30% -
40% of its weight in airborne chemicals, odors and gases.
Activated carbon is made from several sources, coal, coconut shell, wood
or peat moss. In addition, activated carbon can be impregnated with various
catalysts to better absorb specific airborne chemicals and odors.
PLEASE NOTE: Someone who is chemically sensitive may
be sensitive to
some or all types of activated carbon.
If you are chemically sensitive we highly recommend buying
a carbon test kit before you buy your air purifier.
A carbon test kit is a collection of activated carbons. The purpose of
the kit is to identify an activated carbon that you are not sensitive to.
You may then order your air purifier with that activated carbon.
WARNING: Some people with very severe chemical
sensitivity may still be sensitive to their air purifier in spite of all
the steps taken to prevent this. You may return an air purifier within
30 days for a partial refund. Unfortunately we must charge a 20% restocking
fee on returned Chemical Sensitivity air purifiers. FOR SAFETY reasons
the filters from a returned air purifier cannot be re-used. We incur a
substantial cost from returns.
